Several years (?) ago K1EA modified CT to work the way that Dave desires.  Run
for a while, then go pick off a bunch of spots in a row (without returning to
your run frequency each time).  Finally, use ALT-F4 to return you to your run
frequency (if it's not QRL :-).  Also, back-to-back ALT-F4s toggle between your
run frequency and the last spot, so if the pileup is too big, you can go back
to running and check again later.

Having used CT and packet spots for many years, I really think this is the
right way to do spots.  Something similar could be done in Writelog.
