I too have noticed in the past and again in this contest that not all names
have appeared even though I know they are in my friends.ini file. After
seeing this and other posts I did some testing with calls in the file using
the latest file that was circulated this weekend. Calls at the beginning of
the file always presented the name using %H in my message. Calls at the end
of the file did not present names.
It took some time but I found that KB5MZ would send Bill as it should but
the next call KB5R sent only W and not Walt. This is less than halfway
through the Friends file. I suspect that only a certain amount of the file
can fit into memory and this was the end point on my system. I'm not sure
what method is being used to allocate memory for friends and therefore it
might depend on your hardware and the systems resources in use at the time
WL is launched.
The only solution would appear to be to edit the file down to a length that
works. For me that would mean removing roughly 2/3 of the existing entries.
BTW, during the contest I noticed some exchanges where a name was included
but when my turn came my name was not. VE's and YV's come way down the list
which could explain the problem with YV5AAX.
