I connected a TNC to a USB port using a Belkin adapter with good success so
it probably would work with a keyer. You also can use your parallel port
keyer by installing software such as Direct IO or Userport which will allow
Writelog to see your LPT ports in Windows XP, XP Pro and 2000.

Subject: [WriteLog] CW INTERFACE QUESTION (25 pin connector interface to
Windows XP computer?)

Greetings fellow Writeloggers. I just purchased a new computer and am
trying to set up Writelog again.

My previous computer OS was Windows 95. I had been using a W1WEF CW
interface (using the printer port). According to the WL website, Windows XP
does not allow the use of the printer port for keying. I would prefer not
to use the printer port anyway, so that I don't have to unplug the printer
when contesting. I'm able to key the transmitter through the printer port
when using DX4WIN on this same Windows XP computer, that's strange.

My new computer has numerous USB ports. Can the USB ports be used for this
purpose, or do I need to purchase a board to add serial ports? Is there
an adapter to allow me to keep using the W1WEF (25 pin) interface?

Thanks in advance for your help!

73,

Tom, NU7J
