[WriteLog] Windows sound board newbie inquiry

Hello experienced WL users,
A rookie at best,   inquiring about use of windows sound board option.  Current set-up...Heil microphone to the 1000mp with the serial cable to the com port utilizing the on board sound card.  Is an interface still required to make it all work??  Any thoughts/assistance to get this up and running greatly appreciated.
