The reason is that WriteLog supports so many different RTTY units - both
the built-in soundcard "modem" and a number of external terminal units. On
any external unit, WriteLog just tells it what to send via the serial line
but has no idea when the send is complete. So there's no way to "wait" a
certain number of seconds between auto CQs because Writelog doesn't know
when the CQ is complete.
Best way to find a "good" interval is to set it to something high initially
(maybe 11 seconds or so) and work your way down until you get the interval
you like. For most RTTY CQs, an interval of 8 to 10 seconds is correct -
depends on how long your callsign is and how many times you send it of course.

The red line tells you where the incoming text is going to appear. That's
the reason the "strange" scrolling isn't a problem - once you know to keep
an eye on the red line, you know where the text is going to appear.
