[Writelog] Laptop Keying and Stuttering again

Hi Lee -

We probably all have had RF induced CW stuttering at one point in our lives
but I am certain that Writelog has problems of its own. I gave up on
Writelog CW a few years back and went to the MK1100 keyer, which works
great. I had bad CW on all bands and with both amp/radio pairs in SO2R. I
was using the LPT port and Win98. I had been wondering if the problem went
away with Win2K or using the serial port, but I guess that is not the case.
Thanks for providing your input.

It seems to work for most people, but not all. It is probably Windows
related and K5KG's suggestion of shutting down everything not completely
essential is a good idea.

If I had to make an uneducated guess, I would look at the network drives.
It seems like my problems got worse when I networked my PC's.

Thanks for all the replies about the laptop serial port stuttering when it
was sending CW on FD.

Just a couple of points for all of you to ponder....

Windows 2000 Pro is the OS
Dell 700 Mhz Laptop (not exactly the fastest, but works)
Serial Port Interface: homebrew with 2n2222 and RG174 for thge keying line
Power output: about 80 watts with the radio grounded very well

In fact, I thought it might be RF too...so I coiled a lot of the cable up
into a tight loop and it still did the CW stuttering. I reduced power to 5
watts...still did the stuttering.

I just wonder if users have seen this before and if there is a cure.
