I changed it to 500Hz from the default 200 Hz and it didn't seem to make
any difference.

The answer is in the "what's new" section of the help file 10.45.


The ini.file [ENTRY] AutoClearOnTuneMinHz set to zero will disable
AutoFillFromBandmap as well. Set this to zero and WriteLog will not
clear the Entry window when the radio is tuned.

Don't know what I was doing wrong, but when I clicked on a spot to work
a station and I found that they had drifted or moved a bit, when I tuned
to get more understandable audio, Writelog cleared the entry window.
This was repeatable and I had to re-enter a number of entries this
weekend.
