[WriteLog] ICOM IC-718

I'm a beginner with an elementary question.  My radio is an Icom IC-718.
Currently, there is no connection to the computer. My primary interest
right now is to automate the CW contest exchange.  I know that a CT-17
level converter provides a serial interface to the computer.  However,
it is not obvious to me that the keyer can be operated via the serial
interface.  What is the simplest approach for me to use?
