[WriteLog] COM port timing problems - Solved

Thanks for all the suggestions.  Turned out the FT-857 didn't like the trip very well - I traveled with the head and body of the radio seperated, which may also have had something to do with the problem.   Anyway, doing a full CPU reset on the radio cleared it right up.
