The only thing that comm 1-4 are used for is Rigs.

Let me qualify that though... Packet can use 1-8, RTTY can use 1-8.

But rigs can be set up on comm. 1-4. Also, comm. 1-4 can be used for CW
generation as well.

You can also "map" within the writelog.ini file, comm ports. Take a look
at the excellent help page.

Subject: [WriteLog] Byterunner Configuration Problems

I am setting up Writelog on a new Windows 2000 computer. The box
already
has two standard COM ports installed as COM1 and COM2. I installed my
Byterunner 4 port Serial I/O PCI card. The install seemed to go OK but
the new ports
show up as COM5, COM6, COM7, COM8 in Device Manager.

When I go to the Setup Ports in WL, all I see , of course, is COM1 Thru

COM4. I can't seem to establish communications on the Byterunner Card.
I tried
using ports 3 and 4 thinking that maybe they map to COM5 and COM6 some
way
but no luck. In Device Manager, I tried setting the BIOS COM Port
Number to
COM3 or COM4 but that didn't seem to help either.

Any suggestions? I didn't seem to have this problem on my Windows 98
box.

Al, K0AD
