[WriteLog] PTT Drops

Last month there was a brief discussion on PTT dropping out before the particular message was through sending. I checked the archives and I didn't see anything resembling a fix, just that several folks had the problem.

I've had the problem for some time and it was sorely aggravated this weekend during the RTTY Sprint (I guess any problem is aggravated during the sprint). I use the computer's two serial ports for RTTY to two FT1000mp's. I have a Quatech 4-port USB to Serial adapter. Two of those ports are the CAT connections to the radios and in Writelog that is where I key (PTT) the radios. I suspected this might be causing the dropping PTT but in the first hour Saturday night I lost the USB to Serial box. I was only running one radio anyway so I connected CAT to Serial 1 on the computer and Serial 2 became the RTTY connection.

I still had the problem and it was most aggravating. Has anyone had any luck in solving the problem?

I'm considering sticking a transisitor in my homebrew RTTY interfaces and running RTS for PTT via the same comport that I'm using to send RTTY and seeing if this makes a difference. Has anyone tried that? Or maybe someone who is doing that anyway and has never experienced the PTT drop problem.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Bill
