It's just to remove old chip (EPROM) and put in new one.

I ordered my from www.yaesu.co.uk for about 8£ plus shipping, and I also got
copy of pages from manual how to do that.

Trent,
I'm not aware of the resistor mod.  The pre-V6 firmware caused the
radio to lock up for 6 seconds while it talked to the computer.
Apparently, it downloads the complete parameter set when any command
is sent and takes that long to do it.  You need to update the
firmware.
