[WriteLog] TS-2000 & WRITELOG

Hello Craig,
	Let me say I own a TS-2000 and have had it for almost 2 years now.
Is it the Perfect Rig?  No.  But it does everything I ask of it and it does
it to MY satisfaction.  Here is what I would recommend.
	Find someone who has one in your area, even if it is a retail store
like HRO or whatever.  Wait until an active contest event is in place and
make arrangements to either borrow it for a day, rent it for a day, or go to
the store with a laptop rigged to run the rig in RTTY if that is your
concerns and see how it performs.  DON'T take someone elses word for nada!
They aren’t you!  EVERY Ham expects different things from the rig he runs
and a LOT of them can't tell the difference between a rig with world class
front ends and a dog unless they are in a HIGH level of RF situation.  IE:
They have several VERY CLOSE VERY HIGH POWER STATIONS WITH BIG ANTENNAS
WITHIN A SEVERAL MILE RADIUS OF THEIR QTH!  That is when you find out just
how good the receivers are.  I have used my TS-2000 in limited RTTY and
PSK-31 contest with what I considered good results from the receivers but
the transmitters ran best when reduced to what ever power they ran out with
ZERO, Ø, ALC in place.  The IMD was better.  I also used the internal tuner
most of the time to ensure a good match to the antenna or AMP so it didn't
effect the final IMD.  I ran a good two tone test of the whole system before
the contest to get it adjusted for best linearity and made notes for
resetability.  I used my external antenna tuner when necessary on 80 and 160
to keep local high power AM broadcasting signals OUT of the front end when
necessary. I have a station at 5 or 10 KW within 4 miles of me and a few
others at the same level within 8 miles of me.
	Will this Kenwood challenge your FT-1000 for the prime rig position
in a contest situation?  Not likely especially if you have yours loaded,
have all the little mods made and if it has been recently critically aligned
it will walk rings around the TS-2000 in SOME situations.  The real question
becomes, as a second rig, will those situations limit the use of the
functional use of the Kenwood in YOUR station situation?  ONLY you can
answer that question.
	Try one.  I think you just might like it especially as a good second
rig with a TON of features and band capabilities.  I have always thought of
the IC-706 in what ever the flavor is now called as the "Swiss Army Knife"
of Ham Radio.  I think of the TS-2000 as that on Steroids!

The TS-2000 has a poor reputation in some circles, especially about 
receiver performance. Check the reviews at eham.com before you take 
the leap. I love Kenwoods but apparently that one is a dog.
