Bob:

What was the problem? I'm assuming that the sound card would not pass the mic audio through to the speaker out so you could use your normal voice on the rig?

If thats the case, then yes its the soundcard which will not support Writelog. I use a Dell and ended up purchasing a $50 external Soundblaster USB soundcard. While I hated to use an external box thats the way I went as I wanted the Dell features for other reasons (17" wide screen and a good price from my local dealer). On top of that I took the soundboard checker from Writelog, went to Best Buy and tested several laptops, none of which supported Writelog (HP, Toshiba, Compaq).

However, having the extermal board did have a posititve, I was able to sit it on top and on the left side of my Mark V. It was easy to plug the mic in the soundboard, and the headset into the phone jack on the rig. I then used a modified 1/8" stereo cable from the speaker out of the soundboard to the patch in of the Mark V. The modification was adding an audio transformer to the cable for isolation.

I use the Heil Pro Media Headset which is designed for soundcards.

The other option to the USB board is to use Soundblasters PCMCIA card. I couldn't use one of those as my new Dell as an express card slot, but it worked on another Dell I have which has a PCMCIA slot.

The external USB card was used this past weekend and it worked just great.
