(RE-Threaded from: Rig control with Writelog.)

If the following capability already exists (somehow) within WriteLog, can someone please list the step-by-step details for configuration use TNX!!!

If not, this is an URGENT WISH LIST NEED.

All that is needed from within WriteLog during most Contest operating is the ability to tune the rig (in my case, TS-480) TXRX VFO and RIT without having to change focus to and from a renite control program window. Some "remote" software like Kenwood's ARCP-10 provides for complete keyboard entry control of the functions (including main VFO and RIT tuning).

I have just successfully figured out how to tune the VFO via the remote ARCP-10 software using a left (down) and right (up) USB foot pedal ( http://www.piengineering.com/xkeys/xkfoot.php ) which I've programmed the Macros for Auto-Repeat. Pressing the footpedal without letting up continues to tune the VFO up or down. Unfortunately, the ARCP-10 keyboard commands don't provide for this functionality using the RIT or XIT, but I just figured out a workaround. In the RUN Contesting mode (when you normally need the RIT for the dumbos who call wayyyyy off frequency), just use the SPLIT mode in the TS-480 and keep the B VFO as your RUN frequency. When you tune the A VFO via the footpedals (could also be another X-Keys device macro button), Bingo...it's like tuning the RIT. When you transmit, the signal remains on the B VFO frequency.

The only thing needed to make the above tuning work from *WITHIN* WL is to have the ability for two Hot-Key combo comands (one for VFO up, one for VFOdown) that when activated from the keyboard in WL (physically or via an X-Keys footpedal or other device Macro), sends a DDE (maybe OLE?) command to the ARCP-10 software to do the following which involves Menu choice items and accelerator key choice options):

> EQUIVALENT OF TURNING VFO KNOB "UP"
> 1. Top Menu Item Choice Desired: (ALT + V)
> 2. Drop Down Menu Choice Desired: (T)
> 3. Drop Down Menu Choice Desired: (U)
>
> EQUIVALENT OF TURNING VFO KNOB "DOWN"
> 1. Top Menu Item Choice Desired: (ALT + V)
> 2. Drop Down Menu Choice Desired: (T)
> 3. Drop Down Menu Choice Desired: (D)

IF ALT+V is currently used, then whatever WL keyboard commands could be used, simply convert them to being sent in the equivalent code to yield: ALT+VTU and ALT+VTD. No extensive programming is required, except without the WL Source Code access to end users, it would have to be done by Wayne. To make this generically workable with other remote software programs, a simple config dialog for the output characters/keystrokes need could be filled in by the user.

Gosh oh golly gee, is this ever a needed enhancement to eliminate having to grab the mouse at 35WPM to change Windoze focus to tune the VFO or (equivalent) to the RIT. Every unnecesary hand or mouse movement that can be eliminated translates into more time for Contest QSOs.

Thank you very much.
