[WriteLog] XP Pro SP3 and NO COM1

I just transferred from a W98 laptop to and XP Pro laptop.  I now see that COM1 does not work for PTT.  Rig control on COM5 is working fine. 
 
 The PTT on COM1 does work fine with Digipan and Fldigi.  There are no other devices that use COM1.   I am using WL 10.44B, as it met my needs on W98.  
 
I searched the archives for XP and COM1 and saw that others have had a similar problem, but no one posted their solution.
