[WriteLog] New WriteLog PC Recommendation

 just want to relay my experience with the refurbished desktops.



Nothing bad just good.  

At work we have a emergency response trailer that is provided by the 
company.  We have 4 operating positions.  We recently upgraded the 
station with Icom ProIII and Alpha Amps.  This trailer also does double 
duty as our contest station.



We got new to us computers, 5 of them, they are HP DX5150 Small Form 
Factor PC, AMD Athlon 64 3200 2.0GHz CPU, 512MB memory, 40GB HDD, 
DVD-ROM drive, XP Pro with Recovery CD from a company called Micro 
Center for $129.99 each.

They come with WindowsXP PRO, and have a comport and printer port.  We 
use Writelog and a local network between rigs.  Rigcontrol is USB, RTTY 
interface uses the comport and CW sending uses the printer port.  On the
 4th computer we added a 4 comport board ($25 from NewEgg) to run the 
satellite station antennas.  Windows, Writelog and other software only 
takes up 5GB of the 40 GB drive.  They run very fast.



They have been running for about 6 months now with no problems.



No need for super-duper computers for this type of applications.

Well, desktops are perfectly OK for contesting. I would buy a new 
HDD to be safe. Any P4 with 2GHz CPU (or even less) will do (for XP).
