"Failed to create custom TNC handler" may mean that the MMTTY plug-in for WL is not properly installed.
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs and see if the MMTTY plug-in for WriteLog is listed. If it is, uninstall it and then reinstall it using the WriteLog Legacy Installer. If the MMTTY plug-in is not listed, install the MMTTY plug-in for WriteLog by using the Legacy Installer.
If that doesn't work, perhaps the path to MMTTY is not correct in the writelog.ini file. Check the writelog.ini file and see if the path to MMTTY is correct under [Rttyrite].
If all else fails, save writelog.ini as something else, like writelog.old, restart WriteLog. WriteLog will create a new .ini file and you start from fresh. Open Rttyrite and see if MMTTY is listed in the TU Type list. If not, MMTTY plug-in is not installed. If it is listed, click on it and you will then need to navigate to the location of mmtty.exe. It's important that mmtty.exe is listed in a folder where the entire MMTTY program is installed and not just the engine mmtty.exe by itself.

>select "RTTY Window," the above happens. And after about 3 secs, the dreaded
>"Server busy" window appears also. Choices are "switch to" or "retry." In
>the past, I could close that error window thru Task Manager and ending
>"Profiles," but now the only choice there is to end Writelog itself.
