[WriteLog] Migrating WL 11.x from XP to Win7 Pro?

Jim,

You are correct about the change Wayne made to move some WL program data to
C:\ProgramData\WriteLog. That is where my data files currently lie. My
error was in looking at the Virtual Store path I noticed a
Writelog\ProgramData folder, but on closer look it is an old file dating
back several years. The current file is at the new location. My
writelog.ini files are still under the Virtual Store path though in a
Windows folder at that location.

Notice I said writelog.ini files, plural. I keep four separate versions for
the various modes I may work in different contests - writelogcw.ini,
writelogssb.ini, writelogrtty.ini and writelogcw-ssb.ini. Each version has
different settings for some of the things I like to tweak specific to any
given mode. I merely rename the file I want to use back to writelog.ini for
the contest. Saves me the trouble to try and remember what things need
adjusting for that mode. And at my age, remembering something is getting to
be a challenge!

Gary, while this may have been your experience, it wasn't mine. I
have never installed WriteLog in the Program Files directory. Wayne
made changes in the later versions of 10.x to move the WriteLog data
out of the WriteLog directory hierarchy, and into a neutral location
on Windows Vista/7/8 systems (C:\ProgramData\WriteLog). This is
independent of where you actually install WriteLog, and is not subject
to the UAC protections applied to the Program Files directory
hierarchy.

When I migrated from XP to Windows 7 some years ago, I did a clean
install of Windows 7 (not an upgrade), and a clean install of
WriteLog.
