The problem you describe sounds like an intermittent communication error. ?What's the hardware you use to connect the radio to the computer for the radio interface ? ?Also can you verify your baud rate is set to an explicit number and not "auto" in WriteLog (or the radio side). When I upgraded from Version 12.34 to 12.45 I lost communication between WL and my Bandmaster3 which controls the band filters. Changing bands on the rig (IC7600) would automatically change to the correct Band Filter. Now nothing. If I uninstall V 12.45 and reinstall V 12.34 the Bandmaster3 sees the change of bands and reacts accordingly changing to the correct band fliter and all is well. I like some of the new features in 12.45 but in order for the program to be functional I have to got back to 12.34. You mission, should you choose to accept it, is as follows: 1. Take note of where you can find your must recent FULL install kit for WriteLog. You will need it in order to undo the changes in the remainder of these instructions. If you skip this step, we can still help you later, but you'll have to ask for help and wait for us to get around to answering your requests for help. 2. Download this file: ??? http://writelog.com/Downloads/WL1246_RigDiagnostics.zip 3. With WriteLog NOT running, confirm you are logged into your PC with an account with Administrator privilege. 4. Unzip the above download into "C:\Program Files (x86)\WriteLog\Programs" (or wherever you installed WriteLog). If you do NOT get a prompt saying "Do you really want to overwrite WlogRi32.dll?" then you are NOT yet in the right directory. 5. From now on, when you run WriteLog, you will get a box that pops up saying "Log file started at:". REMEMBER WHERE THIS IS. 6. Take WriteLog through the steps required to demonstrate what DOES WORK and then what DOES NOT WORK. 7. Exit WriteLog. 8. Email a copy of the wlogio.log file that you REMEMBERED to w5xd at writelog.com. Include that file in your email, and a description, preferably in English, of what buttons/keys/clicks you did in WriteLog to make the file. 9. To undo this diagnostic install (and get rid of that popup every time WriteLog starts) run your most recent FULL installer. And then run your most recent UPGRADE installer. The latter can be downloaded from writelog.com. The former you have to ask us to help you. Due to different error rates by participants, the OoF (Order-of-Finish) may change slightly with the final results. Final results will be published on the web site soon. 73, Ed W0YK Don AA5AU From wk6i.jeff at gmail.com Thu Dec 19 20:55:38 2019 From: wk6i.jeff at gmail.com (Jeff Stai) Date: Thu, 19 Dec 2019 17:55:38 -0800 Subject: [WriteLog] Fwd: RTTY Roundup is coming up - call for stories and photos! To: , RTTY at groups.io Group Moderators , , WSJT-Group , < WSJTX at groups.io> Good gravy - the RTTY Roundup is two weeks away**! I'll be doing the writeup for QST again this year. I'll of course dumpster dive into the 3830 comments and so forth, but if there is anything you'd like to share directly for the writeup just send it to me at wk6i.jeff at gmail.com. Of particular interest is your operating mix. Did you find FT4 and/or FT8 helped you make a better score? Or did you have issues with one mode or the other? Where were the mults? How was the rate? What else should I be asking for? :) PHOTOS: QST loves hi-res photographs of people operating, working on stuff, and so on. Make sure it looks like you are operating digital. ;) People dealing with inclement weather is also a plus. Make sure they are high resolution (lotsa pixels!) And they have people in them. Also send those to me at wk6i.jeff at gmail.com. ** I know practice sessions for RTTY and FT modes are being figured out. Stay tuned for details! Affects only WinKeyers that did not default to on. * For WriteLog remote control, fix occasional ?pops? in remote audio that showed up mostly when you select very low bandwidths at Audio connect time. * Break continuous recording files at the top of the hour. * When Rtty or DigiRite window is connected, log/dupe as digital mode regardless of rig?s reported mode For more information, read the help file in WriteLog. 12.46 upgrade installers are available here: http://writelog.com/downloads/writelog-versions Updating to 12.46 does not automatically update the necessary multiplier files. You must also File/update-data-files in WriteLog to download them. For anyone choosing to run WriteLog without upgrading, you still want to File/update-data-files in WriteLog to get the multiplier updates. I had no problem setting up the remote side, but when I go to the control computer (in-house same subnet for testing) I can connect using "Rem Slot 1" just fine, but I can not get the frequency control to work.? When I go to Setup-WriteLog Options-Ports? all I see are the local serial ports, no "Rem Slot 1". If I connect using "Soft win 1" I get the virtual front panel and can change the radio settings and frequency. I'm setup for RTTY (FSK) and the RttyRite Control Site window comes up, with decoding and I can send using the F-Keys (F4 does send my call, keying the radio and sending FSK) So it looks like all of that works, just no radio connection for the entry panel. (and no audio yet, but I have not tried to get the audio setup working). I tried with the firewall totally off on the Remote system, no change. What else do I need to do? Thanks! I am just using the remote software with the "Soft win 1" slot to get the virtual front panel to the K3.? This works fine, the problem is in the WriteLog "QSO Entry" panel, "Radio" button, the only choice I get is "Manual entry".? If I go to the "setup-WriteLog Options-Ports" page the com port selection is not showing the "Soft win1" or "Rem Slot 1", just com ports.? I don't have another K3, etc., just was going to use the virtual front panel of the "Soft win X" type of connection. I was just trying to get anything working for the first time, then I would worry about a "Front panel" for the radio. Do you have another K3, K3/mini, or K3/0? If not, how did you plan to control the remote radio from the control end? If you do have K3 hardware at the control end, it must be put in "remote" mode for the frequency stuff to work. Also the radio must be on and in normal mode when the Writelog Control Site is started up. This latter issue cause me some heartburn before figured out what was wrong. > > The receive audio is generally easy. The trick is getting all the levels right. In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: After some checking ? this happens when you move your FKeys setup from one computer to another, or just rearrange directories. FKeys appears looking kind of like a flagpole and you can't do anything with it. Look in the directory where you placed FKeys.exe and FKeys.ini. Edit the " Fkeys.ini" file using Notepad.exe. Remove the line under [Contests] that starts Last=?. Look under the section [Locations] and find the lines xstart= and ystart=, and set them to xstart=100 and ystart=100. Then start FKeys.exe again. It should appear with a simple set of buttons that you can change as needed (right click on the title bar). I have not tried either of these, but they might work. 1. Use a remote control program like Teamviewer and just run Writelog and Digirite on the computer connected to the radios. or 2. Use a second computer on the control end. The first computer runs WL control site as you do now. The second computer Runs WL in regular mode and digirite, and is networked to the first computer to keep the logs in synch. The second computer looks like a head set to the first computer and connected to the headphone and mic jacks. The first computer can still control the remote radio. You many need to enter the frequencies on the second computers manually. (Writelog has some kind of frequency synch utility, but I don know if it is generally available.) I always meant to try this but never got around to it. The latency may be a problem or there may be some flaw in my thinking. I do know that networking the two versions of Writelog at the control end does work.
