Paul,

Which category? There is Single-op QRP, Single-op Low Power, and
Single-op High Power. I would assume that you are looking for either SO
QRP or SOLP.
Here are the numbers from last year's test (from the ARRL's web site).
I've just given the #1 and #10 scores from The Box. The other scores
will obviously be spread over the difference.
SO QRP (DX)
#1 NP2Q - 127,036 points, 698 Qs, 91 mults
#10 OH5NHI - 14,310 points, 159 Qs, 45 mults
SO LP (DX)
#1 VP2VF - 578,100 points, 2351 Qs, 123 mults
#10 AY0N - 288,708 points, 983 Qs, 147 mults
Since you're working from G-land, here is the report for Phone-only LP
from there. There were only 4 entrants. The top SOLP Phone op was
G0AEV who had 329,588 points, 1107 Qs, 149 mults. He was also #6 in the
above list. There were NO (none, zip, zilch, zero, nada) QRP entrants
last year. If you're looking for wallpaper, you might think seriously
about taking your QRP wattmeter, cranking the juice down to 5 watts and
going at it that way. If nobody else in England submits an entry in
Phone-only QRP and you make ONE contact in that category - WHAMMO -
instant wallpaper. That would NOT be bad for your first HF contest. If
you decide to go SOLP Phone, you'll need to get your beam up farther
than 12 feet (keep the vertical at 12') if you want to have a shot at
being number one in England and/or making The Box. If you have access
to a computer, even an old one, getting some logging software will make
your life MUCH easier, too, especially when it comes time to dupe and
submit your log (remember, all computer logs for ARRL tests must be in
the Cabrillo format now). I use an old 486-33 and run TR-Log and it
works great. If not, you can still go at it with paper and pencil.
Regardless, good luck. Hope this helps.
73 and hope to put you in the log.
