Greetings all.
I'll be playing at W4CAT during CQ WW DX SSB. We'll be going multi-2
for this one. Tom, K1KY, who owns the CAT-house has been making
improvements all summer in the antenna department. Last time I talked
to him, he was getting ready to get about 7(!) new towers in the ground
which will range in height from about 25 feet (7 m) up to 200 feet (60+
m). He is going to load the Big Tower for 160, with perhaps a big
tribander on top. I know for certain that he is putting up an X7 and X9
from Cushcraft and a Force 12 C3, all for 10-20, and he is possibly
hanging a 402CD for 40 - he's making so many changes that I can't
remember them all. These will complement an interesting array of other
(phaseable) beams, verticals and wires which are already in place for
160-10 (including a few Beverages for listening on TopBand). He has a
pair of Ten-Tec Omni VI+ rigs at the other end of the coax, one with an
Alpha 78(?) and the other with a Ten-Tec Centurion pushing a few
additional dB into the feedlines.
Unless the bands are absolutely in the tank, you should be able to hear
us loud and clear from middle Tennessee on all bands from 160-10 at some
point during the weekend. I'll be manning one of the rigs during the
first 6 or so hours of the contest with other Tennessee Contest Group
members filling in over the rest of the 'test. I'd love to stay and
play all weekend but my wife and kids (I'm an old guy, remember) would
gripe. I'll do my best to get on from home with my mighty 100 watts
from an old TS-440 into an all-band dipole. If I make any Q's from my
basement shack, I'll be sure to contribute them to WWYC this time as the
CQ officials have said that they would honor our status as a club
(right?).
I'm looking forward to the last weekend in October. Hope to see you on
the bands!
73 from Tennessee,
Scott
