Stations who took part in the above Contest and hopefully it will
reach those Stations who were unable to send in their log. It is also
for the use of other organisations having an interest in Contests. It
can be used or distributed in any way, such as Magazine, Internet Web
Sites or News Bulletins. It will be placed on the following Web Site: http://users.bigpond.com/ctdavies
Please distribute it as you think fit.

The Contest was held over the weekend 12th and 13th of June 2003.
Propagation during the first few hours of the Contest seems to have
been poor in many parts of the World. See Contesters Comments.
In fact the Contest was 2 hours old before I finally made my first
QSO. In Australia propagation picked up on Saturday afternoon local
time and a number of contacts were made by several VK's.

Again it is sad to report that only 7 logs were received from VK
Stations, though quite a few more took part in the Contest, their
Calls appearing in several logs. A news item regarding the times of
the Contest was sent well ahead of the Contest to all Wireless
Institute of Australia Divisions for transmission in their next
two broadcasts. We at ANARTS are racking our brains trying to get
more VK's to participate. Short of Bribing, begging and pleading,
it's a heck of a situation to overcome. Australian Amateurs look
on RTTY as an old mode, we are going to have to work hard to change
this. We have been thinking of awarding Certificates to all VK's
who take part, but have not finalised the details. Also we hope
to write an article for publication in "Amateur Radio", the WIA's
Magazine. This article will have information on the Sound Card
technology, where to obtain free Software for RTTY and PSK modes,
and all things Contest. With luck we can get it published shortly
before next years Contest.

Almost 280 logs were received this year, another record. Most of
these logs were received by E-mail, in fact Snail Mail has been
reduced to around 15 logs only. Many of the entries were from users
of Sound Cards, it seems this trend has really caught on in overseas countries and is getting pretty big here too with modes such as
PSK and SSTV. If only we could get them to enter Contests.

Many well known amateur Callsigns took part in the Contest, and also
again there were quite a few first time Contesters. These are very
welcome, but it does seem that the majority of these new contesters
do not have access to the Rules and a Points Table. The system I am
using to process logs allows for the results to be known on
September 1st, the cut off date for receiving logs. However the
number of logs that needed calculating took this well over that date
and is the main reason for sending the results a little late this
year. I have not counted them, but maybe 60 logs were received with
no calculations at all. These logs were invariably in chronological
order instead of by Bands as requested. I did not want to deter
these new contesters and have calculated their score for them,
which meant burning the midnight oil on quite a few nights. For
some strange reason around 10 logs, though they had summary sheets
with all other information ok, had a zero for the number of QSO
Points claimed for each band. Does this mean they had Software
that does not include the ANARTS Contest?

The various Programs for Sound Card RTTY do not include Anarts in
their logging facility. This is the main reason for receiving logs
without the score being calculated. Everything keeps pointing to
ANARTS going Cabrillo. We had intended to do so after last years
Contest but circumstances prevented us doing so. I will be in touch
with the appropriate people to get us up and running on Cabrillo.
I have mentioned it before in previous reports, but the number of
logs received in Cabrillo format suggests we should go ahead with
that program.

Hopefully it will put an end to the number of logs received in
the greatest variety of files I have ever seen. New ways to send
in logs other than in plain text keep popping up. I have received
files in the following ways: .txt .rtf .cbr .xls .zip .doc .wps
.dbs .pdf and .rar. .rar has not yet been opened despite trying
with many types of programs, and a response from the sender has
not be forthcoming.

Please note if you have any enquiries re the Contest or this report,
I have upgraded to Broadband and my E-mail address has had to change
slightly. It is now ctdavies at bigpond.net.au messages addressed to
the old address ctdavies at bigpond.com are still being diverted to me
for some months. Packet Radio enquiries to VK2CTD at VK2WI

The "User Pay" system is working very well. It has cut down the
number of items being posted to contesters. What Postage fees we
receive has coverered the printing of Rules, Reports, Results and Certificates and also paid for their postage. On receipt of this
report, along with the Contest results by E-mail, if you see you
have done particulary well please send the appropriate fee to
the following address:

Contest Manager

We will send you in return your Certificate, plus a better printed
copy of the Results, Rules for 2004, Contest Managers report,
Contesters Comments and a current Points Table.

Thank you all for taking part in our Contest, hope you have done
well and also hope to see your log arriving here next year

A.N.A.R.T.S. WW RTTY CONTEST 2003

Contesters Comments

VE3XD - First time to operate this contest. Had a ball even though conditions could have been better.

WA6BOB - Good challenge for the poor band conditions.

K6UFO - I got on in the last two to hand out some contacts. Fun.

K4GMH - Thanks to the contest committee for sponsoring and
Scoring the contest, also, thanks to all who were kind enough to
Work me. Band conditions were a lot different from last year.
Worked harder and longer and ended up with about 2 million points
Less than last year. Still a lot of fun and more challenging with
The propagation this year.

RA0ALM - Poor conditions. There was no time. My first
Participation in this contest. Interesting system of charge of points.
I shall work the next year. 73's.

5B4AHA - Great contest with plenty of activity. Thanks to all
concerned for running it, and hope to cu again next year.
73 Steve 5B4AHA ZD8LII GOLII ETC

I1COB - Bad conditions!!! Sunday terrible noise in all bands.
Tnx for contest.

K0FG - Band was pretty good, wish more ops had been on.

AC6JT - Friday evening (local time) was great. I had 165 QSOs
when I quite for the evening. I thought this was going to be a
great weekend. The "D absortion event" hit on Saturday morning.
I struggled the remainder of the weekend for the other 126 QSOs.

VE6ASK - My second attempt at Anarts and enjoyed immensley.
This marked my fiurst full year playing in RTTY Contests.
Particiation seemed even better than last year, and conditions were interesting if not great. 20M open to Europe late on Saturday night
and even a sudden very brief 15m opening to RK9-land at mikdnight
local (0700z). Beat last years score by 248,000 points and more
than doubled the QSO count. Missed Africa for the sixth continent.
Heard far few VK stations this year, but was called by VK2SG on
40M - a great surprise and the extra 400 bonus points helped make
up for the Aussie shortage, hi.

ON4ADZ - It would be fair if low power stations could complete
against low power stations. Can you consider a lower power (less
than 100W). From Contest Manager. This is not being considered at
the present time. Many contesters do not have access to higher
power than 100W. In VK it is illegal to put out more than 125W on
narrow band modes.

W1ZT - Fair to poor conditions overall but some real bright
moments this year. My first 80m QSO with ZL2AMI and KH6ND. But
no Europe or USA on 10.

OH2LU - Thank you for another edition of my favourite RTTY
contest since 1987. High points were call from A22BP, ZS1JY,
ZS6BBK, CM2IZ AND XW1IC.

JF2SKV - I enjoyed the contest and QSO's with excellent operators.
Must improve my antenna and skill for next year. Thanks to all
contacts.

7S3A - The last QSO with DK7FP is out time by 3 seconds, but
I logged it anyway, we started the QSO some seconds before the
contest was over, but I struggled with the keyboard and had to
erase the info and start all over again....
Contest Manager....I can live with 3 seconds hi hi....
No signals at all was heard on 10m all weekend and the signal on
15m was very weak and had aurora flutter. 80m had very low activity,
so the best bands to work from this part of the world was 40 and 20m.

N4HY - My roof mount Steppir 3 element is down to put up tower
and to upgrade to 4 elements. I really missed it. I need wires up
for low bands. This contest was a good to install and get accustomed
to Writelog. I had a good time but was limited by extremely bad
lightning storms during the primary open hours on 20 metres.

ZL2AMI - I am very pleased to have exceeded my last year's score.
Propagation was poor from ZL particularly over the last few hours.
Both 10m and 15m closed on the last day leaving a few Oceania
stations listening to each other calling CQ! The highlight was
working CN8LI on 20m for the missing African Continent - just a
few hours before the end - A Table Thumper! Working George W1ZT
on 80, (14,725Km) was a thrill and completing three five band
sweeps was a great buzz. Thanks to Anarts for running a great
contest.

A.N.A.R.T.S. WW RTTY CONTEST RULES 2004

CONTEST PERIOD: The contest takes place on the second full weekend of
June each year. Contest starts 0000 UTC Saturday and ends 0000 UTC Monday. For 2004 the contest dates are Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th June 2004.
Not more than 30 hours of operating is permitted for Single Operator Stations. Non operating periods can be taken at any time during the
contest. Multi Operator Stations may operate the entire contest period.
A summary of operating times is required with each single operator log.

BANDS: Use Amateur bands 80, 40, 20, 15, and 10 metres.

MODES: All digital modes except CW are permitted including PSK etc.
NOTE: No satellite operation is permitted.

CLASSIFICATIONS: (A) SINGLE - OPERATOR (One transmitter)
                   (B) MULTI - OPERATOR (One transmitter)
                   (C) Short Wave Listeners

MESSAGES: To consist of RST, Time (UTC), and Zone (CQ).

SCORING: For each band - Use the "Exchange Points Table (Marked 1994)"
to Obtain QSO points for each QSO. Any contact with VK2SG earns double
the table points for that QSO. Count Countries/Multi's worked (see definition).

Total all bands used to obtain (1) Total QSO Points. (2) Total Countries/Multi's.World stations calculate "VK BONUS", as follows
100 points for each VK worked on 14 MHz, 200 points for each VK worked
on 21Mhz, 300 points for each VK worked on 28 MHz, 400 points for each
VK worked on 7MHz, and 500 points for each VK worked on 3.5 MHz.

CLAIMED SCORE:
For WORLD STATIONS is calculated by multiplying (1) TOTAL QSO POINTS
BY (2) TOTAL COUNTRIES/MULTI'S, then THAT TOTAL by (3) the NUMBER OF CONTINENTS WORKED DURING THE CONTEST. (Note that each continent
counts once only to a maximum of 6). To the total obtained ADD the
"VK BONUS" to show GRAND TOTAL CLAIMED SCORE.

EXAMPLE for World Station: 720 QSO Points calculated from Points
Table (1) X 29 COUNTRIES/MULTI'S (2) X 5 CONTINENTS (3) = 104,400
points, plus (+) 6 VK stations worked on I4MHz (that is 600 VK Bonus
Points), giving a grand total of 105,000 points.

CLAIMED SCORE: For AUSTRALIAN STATIONS (VK1-VK8) is calculated by
multiplying 1) TOTAL QSO POINTS by (2) TOTAL COUNTRIES/MULTI'S and
then that total by (3) the NUMBER OF CONTINENTS WORKED during the
contest with a maximum of six as stated above. This calculation
gives the GRAND TOTAL CLAIMED SCORE.

IN ALL CASES: A station may only be worked once per band, but may
be worked on other bands for QSO points and multipliers.

COUNTRIES/MULTI'S: Are counted as per ARRL DXCC list of countries,
EXCEPT THAT Australia (Areas 1-8) Canada, Japan, and U.S.A.
mainland do not count as separate countries. HOWEVER, each call
areas VK1 - VK8, and each call area in Canada, Japan And mainland
U.S.A. DO COUNT AS SEPARATE MULTIPLIERS.

CONTACT with one's own Country/multi counts for QSO points but does
NOT COUNT AS A MULTIPLIER. (Remember that call areas VK1 - VK8, and
call areas in Canada, Japan, and U.S.A. mainland are Multi's).

LOGS: Logs must show in this order:
1. DATE
2. TIME (UTC)
3. CALLSIGN OF STATION WORKED/HEARD.
4. MESSAGE INFORMATION SENT/RECEIVED (RST/TIME/ZONE)
5. POINTS CLAIMED.

SUMMARY REPORT: Summary sheet must show:
Callsign of station, name and address of operator, bands used
(a separate log is required for each band), the points claimed
for each band, the number of countries worked on each band, the
number of continents worked and details of VK BONUS calculations
for World Stations.

A summary of the calculations made to obtain the GRAND TOTAL
CLAIMED SCORE as per the "Scoring" instruction will assist
checking. The general certification regarding compliance with
Rules and the signatures and Callsign's of operator(s) is also
required. Multi-operator logs must contain signatures and Callsign
of each operator. Single-op logs must show summary of operating
times. Dupe sheets will be appreciated for any band log over 75
QSO's.

AWARDS: A Plaque is awarded to first in World in Classification A. Certificates will be awarded to: 1st to 5th, places in the World,
1st to 3rd places in each of six continents, 1st to 3rd in each country/multiplier in each Classification.

THE JUDGES decision will be final and no correspondence will be
entered into. We reserve the right to list multiple awards on
any Certificate and/or vary the numbers of awards given without
notice. Logs become the property of A.N.A.R.T.S.

CLOSING DATE. Logs must be received by the Contest Manager

Notes on submitting logs by E-mail

Please submit your log using a text format, that is an ascii .txt
file. Do not use a Rich Text file, or any other type of file, and
PLEASE do not Zip the files up.

Logs received in any other form will be put to one side and if
time permits we will try to process them.

Please check your log has the following before transmitting:
Your Callsign, Name and Postal Address. Your E-mail address to
send you the results. All items required in the Summary Sheet
are correct, that is you have included per band: number of QSO's,
number of QSO Points, number of Multiples, number of Continents
worked and number of VK Bonus Points per band. Your log cannot
be processed if these items are not shown.

Do not name the log ANARTS. Please use your own callsign. Example
vk2ctd.sum Many stations have used ANARTS for their log title,
which means the Computer puts a little window on the screen saying
"There is already a file of that name, do you want to overwrite."
All such logs have to be re-titled, so your cooperation please.

Do not send multiple E-mail copies of your log if you do not receive
an acknowledgment. For the 2002 Contest several stations sent two
copies of their log and one station sent their log 3 times. This
resulted in severe confusion in the Register of logs. With dozens
of logs beings received each day, it is almost impossible to
acknowledge each log. If you do not trust the E-mail system and
require an acknowledgment, please send another E-mail requesting
the same, but please do not clog up the system with another log.
Some Mail programs include the Automatic Acknowledgment facility.
Also the list of logs received is sent on to the RTTY Reflector rtty at contesting.com and is also sent to Contes at WW and RTTY at WW
on Packet Radio.
