[WWYC] WWYC website status

Hello lids,

since the new website version of http://www.wwyc.net/ is online, it
seems that noone is using the website anymore, except for a lot of
spam-bots that fill up the forum and comments.

Compared to the old WWYC website, this one is terribly slow. I didn't
check, but I guess it generates a lot more traffic than the old one,
and the server itself is pretty slow here. It sometimes takes 30
seconds and longer to get to the start page. Also, as several people
mentioned before, I don't find the new design very attractive, it
looks rather sad.

I know and honor that LZ5AZ and M3PHP have put a lot of work into the
website and that they are doing this in their freetime, so we cannot
expect a completely professional website. Their work helped the WWYC a
lot to become what it is today. But the current situation is not very
satisfying, probably neither for the members who want to use the
website, nor for Dimitar and Pete, who have done a lot of work for
something that is not used.

I am sorry to say this, but I liked the design of the previous version
of WWYC.net a lot better.

Another problem is the slow server. As I wrote above, the site
usually takes considerably more than 30 seconds to load. As many of
you know, the wwyc.net-server is located in China and the domain name
and webspace are donated by Michael, BD5RV. At this place, a big
thanks to Michael for this service.

Several members have offered to host the website on very quick and
reliable servers in EU or NA. Of course the decision is entirely up to
Michael, but I think this would be a way to improve the situation
significantly.

I'd like to hear your comments about the website situation. Like it is
now, we are not making a good impression to the public and possible
new members!

73,
