[Yaesu] DVS-2 .. "raspy" audio problem

I just picked up a second-hand DVS-2 digital voice recorder
and am somewhat disappointed by what appears to be a low-level
"raspiness" to the audio.   I don't think this is a "normal"
condition for the unit.   I did turn off most other electrical
appliances (i.e. computer, monitor, rotator, etc)....
