Thanks to all who responded to my original message on this subject.

Chip Margelli, K7JA, Yaesu Engineering/R&D, is looking into the matter.
I'll post any information I get from him.

By the way, Chip's old phone/voice mail (Extension 243) is not a reliable
way to contact him, since he doesn't always get the messages.  Thanks to
whoever tipped him off that I was trying to contact him.
