Sorry I did not think of that sooner.

I work with computers and one of the best ways to troubleshoot is to remove everything down to a bare bones setup.  Check to see if it works and then start adding pieces back into the computer.
I don't see why this wouldn't work with radios as well.  Disconnect everything but the power cord and see what happens.

I have one of those mics.  Will keep this tidbit for future use!
