[Yaesu] FT101B finals - what's the story?

FT101B uses 6JS6 finals; a rig I'm restoring has very dead final tubes.

I've heard some stories about how picky the rig is to "real japanese 6JS6
tubes" and such... True?

I'm not into authenticity on this rig - I'd be glad to substitute anything
that makes sense (I have some 6JU6 which probably have different pin-out
but are basically the same size).

Any suggestions before I start hacking on the rig?
