Ted;
Any antenna tuner will impose some loss.  The better the design,
the lower the loss.  My FT-900 normally drops about 10W across
it.  This is even for a 50 ohm load.  (100w in gets 90W out).
I would expect the same type of performance from a FT-1000.
Please check loss by running the transmitter into a good load
first.
