[Yaesu] 990 Xmit dead

I have an FT990. The transmitter is suddenly dead, all modes. Everything
else works. MOX and the footswitch put it into xmit, but no output. I don't
have a service manual. I know this happened once before to the previous
owner, then after some time it healed itself. Any known probs, or any hints
(including dumb switch settings) on what to check? I don't have much
repeir/troubleshooting equipment.
