I like and use "Logger" myself. It is free. My take on it- excellent software and does pretty much everything the others do (the 'pay-for' utilities do have a few extra features that are pretty slick). One download site is listed below. 73, David K3KY P.S. It consists of 2 reed relays triggered by going to transmit. One is in series with the rx-ant lead, and it opens. The other is directly across the rx-ant input and ground, and it shorts. Simple and works very well. Check my web page for a couple of links- the boards are apparently still available. 73, David K3KY http://www.angelfire.com/md/k3ky/page63.html -- FAQ on WWW: http://www.contesting.com/FAQ/yaesu Submissions: yaesu@contesting.com Administrative requests: yaesu-REQUEST@contesting.com Problems: owner-yaesu@contesting.com From aa4nu@ix.netcom.com Thu Aug 2 17:51:00 2001 From: aa4nu@ix.netcom.com (Billy Cox) Date: Thu, 2 Aug 2001 11:51:00 -0500 Subject: [Yaesu] RX Antenna Jack (beverage antennas) References: <3B6946AF.8783.4496FD2@localhost> Message-ID: <00af01c11b73$505dd440$033056d1@nec3> > The KD9SV Front End Saver appeared in CQ Magazine, Feb 97, > p. 32. It consists of 2 reed relays triggered by going to transmit. One is in series with the rx-ant lead, and it opens. The other is directly across the rx-ant input and ground, and it shorts. The TTL-RS232 converter is a single IC and anyone can build such a device very easily. The circuit you need is the so-called MAX232. This IC is produced by many manufacturers like ICL232 and so on. I can email you the application note. You only have to add a few of capacitors and a resistor to limit the current the radio can suck from the IC and you have it working. 73 de Zoli HA1AG > -----Original Message----- > From: aalvarez@cpsarg.com [mailto:aalvarez@cpsarg.com] > Sent: 07 July, 2001 04:28 > To: yaesu@contesting.com > Subject: [Yaesu] FIF 232 diagram > > > > Hello, i am looking for TTL RS232 converter diagram for homebuilt, i > try to use with FT840 and FT747, can anybody send to me circuit > diagram or link to any web site for download it? > please write to my email adress: aalvarez@cpsarg.com > tks! > Alex LU8YD > > -- > FAQ on WWW: http://www.contesting.com/FAQ/yaesu > Submissions: yaesu@contesting.com > Administrative requests: yaesu-REQUEST@contesting.com > Problems: owner-yaesu@contesting.com > From robin@g3tkf.freeserve.co.uk Sun Aug 19 17:39:35 2001 From: robin@g3tkf.freeserve.co.uk (Robin Thompson) Date: Sun, 19 Aug 2001 17:39:35 +0100 Subject: [Yaesu] FT1000D gone deaf Message-ID: Hi all I recently discovered my FT1000D has gone low gain above 12Mhz - by around 12dBs or so. In CW it does indeed go dead, *but* if you set the sub-rx for USB or LSB while the main rx is in CW mode, it will spring back to life. This can be very annoying, however, and the easiest thing is to install the sub-rx CW filter if you operate that mode. BTW if you set the sub-rx for SSB modes, it is also set for SSB bandwidth! It probably doesn't make any difference which brand you get for the sub-receiver's narrow filter: I'm not even sure if InRad makes one for the sub-receiver. Inrad makes a couple of narrower CW filters for the sub-rx. Something like 400Hz and 250Hz if I remember right. The Yaesu 600Hz unit is probably fine for most operators. If you do a lot of contesting, the Inrads would make life a lot easier. They would also help if you do a lot of weak signal DXing on the noisy low bands. I believe that the FT-1000D does not ship with the 250Hz 3rd IF filter, but it does have the 250Hz 2nd IF unit. KD5VC published a clever mod that runs the 250 2nd IF filter with the 500Hz 3rd IF filter (the default is to cascade with the 2.4KHz unit). You are correct. There are three differences between the FT-1000D and the FT-1000. The FT-1000D includes all of the optional filters *EXCEPT FOR THE 250 Hz 3RH IF FILTER*, the FT-1000D includes the BPF-1 "split band front-end filter" for the sub receiver, and the higher stability reference oscillator. > KD5VC published a clever mod that runs the 250 2nd IF filter > with the 500Hz 3rd IF filter (the default is to cascade with > the 2.4KHz unit). BTW I bought a used FT-1000 and later got a BPF-1 bandpass filter assembly and installed it. It was money well spent. Diversity reception is worth the effort it takes to get it! To my knowledge, the older FT-1000 and the "D" are the only ham transceivers that are capable of true antenna diversity reception. There is a (partial) mod published for the MP, but it is a pretty major effort to build up the external box that does it, and it involves getting hold of a BPF-1 anyway and modifying it. A special ROM is needed to complete the design. This has been done by a Japanese ham, but is not commercially available, and I have never seen a complete schematic published. Thanks also to Joe, K4IK for the new url of the archive item I have on my FT-1000D mods page for KD5VC's mod- http://www.angelfire.com/md/k3ky/page64.html I had to fix 4 or 5 of them on that page. Everything is working again. Now I need to do the same on my Flags and Pennants antenna compendium page, where there are a lot more urls to fix. I think it is great that the guys at the Topband archives let this Major Domo guy retire with full pension, but he sure left a lot of broken links behind him! :o) 73, David K3KY From WD8ARZ" Message-ID: <000701c13186$750009c0$35d479a5@mkts> Yep, I concur with everything you said David. Along with that antenna diversity reception that I highly endorse, don't forget the mode and filter diversity reception that works great too. Using headphones, or speakers centered to your far left and right, brings in a improved sorting ability when turning around with dual receivers too. In fact this portion of the diversity reception 'plays' with the brain, and I find not only very pleasing listening as a result, but because I can 'mentally' sort different audio types being feed to each ear, I also find my fatigue listening factor is reduced considerably. I frequently put one receiver on to Usb for a AM broadcast station, and the other receiver on LSB. Depth is immediately improved. Then if you play with the Dsp settings on the main receiver, it almost sounds like stereo effects! Wonderful brain spatial effects galore this way. Using one receiver on plain AM and the other on AM Synchronized isn't bad when tuning around and having the tuning knobs locked together. Signals slide around the head real neato! Lets don't forget experimenting with different width filters between the two receivers also. Actually it would be very easy to bring out a separate antenna connection from the FT-1000MP sub receiver. There is plenty of room on the back panel for a connecter.... or you could free up one of the connectors already there. Only thing missing would be to use a tuner so as to provide some front end filtering to contain the overload issue from nearby strong signals. Most tuners would be a big help. Yep I know it is not a band pass filter and it doesn't change band to band automatically, but neither did our rigs of yore... hi hi There is a mod for the D out there some where, that ties the two receivers tuning together, which is very very nice to have when tuning around with diversity reception. One day I plan to implement that in my MP. Currently you have to hold in the main receiver dial lock to tune the main receiver and have the sub receiver track with it. That button holding hurts the finger after awhile.... hi hi 73 from Bill - WD8ARZ wd8arz@ix.netcom.com ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Thursday, August 30, 2001 2:36 PM Subject: RE: [Yaesu] FT-1000D Filters > Thanks to Steven, N5SK for the particulars on FT-1000D > missing options.
