Make sure to get the 600-Hz (or is it really 500-Hz?) filter for the
sub-receiver. Otherwise, you'll think you went deaf when you're listening
to a station through the main receiver's 500-Hz filter and you send that
frequency to the sub-receiver. Unlike most other manufacturers, Yaesu
didn't bother spending the extra penny for a couple of diodes to steer the
signals through the sub-receiver's wide filter when the optional narrow
filter isn't installed. It probably doesn't make any difference which brand
you get for the sub-receiver's narrow filter: I'm not even sure if InRad
makes one for the sub-receiver.
I don't think it's worth the extra money to buy any optional filters for the
FT-1000, although it would probably be worth several hundred dollars extra
for an FT-1000D. The FT-1000D contains all of the filters that it's
possible to add into an FT-1000, except for the optional 600-Hz sub-receiver
filter. The FT-1000D also contains the optional bandpass filter (BPF) unit,
so you can listen to two different bands at the same time. I've heard that
each FT-1000D leaves Japan as an ordinary FT-1000, and its box is opened by
Yaesu in California so the filters (and BPF unit) can be installed: Yaesu
then stamps a D following the FT-1000 on the box and re-seals it.

Am new to this list, although I have owned an FT920 (used mainly on 6m) for
the last couple of years. I am in the process of buying one of the last new
FT1000 radios available in the UK and would appreciate advice on:
1/ Filters - should I go for the Yaesu ones or InRad ones? Which would you
consider to be the essential ones, if on a limited budget? I currently have
a TS850sat with 1.8ssb and cascaded 500hz cw filters, which I find is fine
for general ssb and cw contesting plus some casual dxing. Do I really need
the second rx filter?
2/ Are there any warranty approved mods that I really should get carried out
in the workshop beofre the radio is despatched to me?
