This question has now been answered a number of times... perhaps it should be 
part of the FAQ

The last firmware version is 1.3. To upgrade from an older version the 
following part requires replacement:

G1091594	FT-990 ROM IC M37700M4A215FP

Replacing this chip requires specialist tools such as a surface mount rework 
station and rework should only attempted by persons experienced in SMD 
reworking.

Alternatively, arrange upgrade of logic board by Vertex.
