John,

I have only used the 756PROIII, PROII, but have a PRO, and a FT1000MKV (Field), with Inrad Roofing Filter.

Depending on the contest, I am sometimes a casual and sometime serious contest operator. I can only say from my experience the FT1000MKV , for ease of operation and receive sensitivity and selectivity, DSP performance, it blows the PRO and the PROII away.

I would suggest that you go to www.eham.net then "Product Reviews" and read through the recent Reviews on the IC-7800, as some favorably compare it to the FT1000MKV. Also see the IC756PROIII and FT1000MKV (Field) reviews.

I can honestly say I have never regretted buying the FT1000MKV, but often regretted buying the PRO.

year or so, and am trying to select between the
FT1000MKV (or probably the Field, given the internal
PS) and the Icom 756PROIII. Any idea which would be
better for causal contesting and more serious DXing?
Could possibly consider the PROII also, but the PROIII
sounds like it has some very nice improvements.
