[Yaesu] FT1000 MK V battery problem

My MK V recently started to eat(rapidly discharhge) the memory backup
battery.
If I don't use the radio for 5 or 6 days all programmed settings are lost.
This has happened 3 times now.  Yaesu says they have never heard of this
problem.
The radio is not used a lot, maybe once a month.
 
Does anyone else have a similar problem?
Some device is sucking too much current is my guess.
When I replace the battery I religiously follow the Yaesu procedure
concerning the position of the Back-up switch on the rear panel.
 
My old 1000MP battery lasted 5 years or more.
I have another MK V here that is the same vintage and I have never replace
its battery
