Comments:

my first CQWW CW out of W7 land, had a blast ! took my youngest son and his
girlfriend with me, so when I played radio during the daytime, they ran around
the island, come night time when the band folded, all of use ran around the
island and checked out the nightlife. Took two homebrew 15 mtr verticals, three
antenna stands, 20 radials each, my K2/100 and laptop. end fired them into
europe, and when europe died, moved one to end fire into the U.S., seemed to
work well. Started the contest friday evening, 8 o'clock local time, knew it was
going to be bad, so 57 minutes and 14 Q's later, (all south american stations,
and not a single U.S. station) we decided to go for dinner and a few drinks, and
check out the night life. Up a sunrise, and the runs to Europe
started at 6:30 in the morning, and they were pretty much non-stop till noon,
(both days) with a string of about 20-25 east coast U.S. stations, went out on
the patio and moved one antenna to point to the U.S., both days the U.S. runs
went for only about 3 solid hours, as about 3:00 in the afternoon, the band more
or less died !! I had geo-clock running, would look at it, see I had many hours
of daylight left, and kept wondering where everybody went to !! so after three
in the afternoon it was a lot so S&P'ing, now let me tell you, PJ7/K7ZUM is NOT
a good S&P call !! it was 'comical' to see who could get it on the first try,
(very, very, very few)it was mostley the secound, third, sometimes fourth try ! by
five o'clock sunday, 15 mtrs was mostley "empty space" (from the carribeans
!!!!!!!!!!!!) I opend up the filters to 1K, and would hear static, and the same
stations calling C.Q., and got no takers from my own CQ's, so decided to pack
everything up and go out for a good dinner with my son and his girlfriend.

Have been to ST. Martien many times for CQWW SSB, and have been on the
receiving end of many a unruly European pileup, and was pretty much expecting
the same thing on C.W., was I ever surprised, for the most part the pileups were
rather tame, and I did notice that there are some really excellent european C.W.
ops, (that does not include me) thanks to everybody for the contacts, was a
great time for me, and am looking forward to doing it again !
