Comments:
Never a dull moment. Approximately 2 hours before NSL a fire broke out half a
mile from our home after a car with faulty cat converter set 9 fires along the
road. One spur came up the mountain toward our QTH, passing through adjacent
vineyards and forest. We shut the house tight (4 hour burn rating, took pics
and watched the CalFire helicopters and tankers do their thing. Then 45 mins
before NS we drove down the road to thank the CALFIRE crews and meet our
neighbors whose home was spared fortunately. At 1925 I raced up the hill (1.2
miles and 800 feet up) just in time to be 5 mins late for NSL and shaking like
a leaf. Sorry for QLF CW to some of the early Q's. Bob, K6NV, showed up on
post contest net and advised on appropriate rewards for the CDF (Calfire) folks
. . basically food.
Great conditions on 20.. . but amazed anyone can hear me with such a feeble
antenna. Now have 3 weeks to sort things out a little. Next NSL on July 11
(FD and 4th of July holiday break).
