Soapbox : Last minute change of plans had me here for this Field Day, so spent
it in the comfort of my easy chair and my own bed! Ran the coax out to the
balcony and started out as QRP with my FT-817 and new lithium-polymer
batteries, but S&P in the poor conditions on Saturday was no fun. So got out
the FT-857D and the big batteries and moved to low power. Conditions on Sunday
were excellent and had a super long run on 15 meters before moving up to 10
meters when I found it open. Heard lots of guys getting acquainted with
electronic keyers for the first time, and several non-keyer fists singing that
dit-dah rhythm I'd not heard in a very long time. Guess the OOTC's still come
out for Field Day. But, then, we're the OT CW guys now aren't we? Missed the
Dakotas and Nevada, but activity was good.

The CW guys are pretty good, but there were some newbies in there who called
and called and called. And I had many, many requests for repeats for our WCF.
I guess the word hasn't gotten out to the non-contesters.
