Comments:

Wow! Ain't sunspost wunerful!!!!

New personal records for ARRL DX CW: most total QSOs (2046), most QSOs on 15
meters(799), most QSOs on 40 meters (531), most multipliers on 15 meters(96),
most multipliers on a single band in all band entry (96), most contacts in a
clock hour (120), and highest score (2,228,094). If score isn't reduced too
much in the log checking or another 5 beats me it will be a new 5th call area
LP record.

I went into this contest with low expectations. Because I needed to use a
windows logging program on my laptop for WRTC I had abandoned trusty old TR and
my DOS computer for an XP laptop with new interfaces and logging software. This
was to a chance to learn the new system in the heat of battle. There were also
some antenna issues. My 4 element SteppIR wasn't working properly (think the
reflector isn't working) but weather and other obligations had precluded fixing
it. Thursday and Friday were spent putting in new NW-SE reversible beverage only
to find it didn't work (bad transformer?). An hour before the contest I walked
up to check the tower with the 40 meter Moxon and 20 meter C3 stack (tower is
450 feet from the shack). I was shocked to find the top C3'S 20 meter reflector
on the ground. Not enough time was left to fix it before the contest. Then
Sunday afternoon I stepped outside for a short break and discovered one of the
dipoles on my 80 meter array had broken loose from it's ground end and was
laying against the tower - perhaps why I didn't seem to have quite the usual
punch on 80. Admittedly though, even with a crippled antenna farm, I've still
got an antenna system the average ham would love to have.

Things did not start off well - after making about a dozen contacts the logging
software quit tracking new multipliers. That is a pretty significant problem so
I spent much of the first hour and a half trying to fix it without success. I
considered going back to TR but that would defeat the purpose of learning the
new software. Finally I discovered the program would recalculate the
multipliers when I edited a contact. Strange but better than not working at
all.

Net result after two hours - I only had only 84 Q's compared to 113 last year,
despite what seemed to be much better conditions (even worked two JAs on ten
meters). At 1400 Saturday morning I was still 15 contacts and 24 multipliers
behind 2009. The next hour was amazing though - 120 Q's on 15 meters, the most
I've ever made in an hour from home in a DX contest. By 1500 I had caught up to
2009 and from there on out I left it in the dust. By 0700 Sunday I had exceeded
2009's total contacts. By 1100 UTC I had passed 2009's total score. By 1800 UTC
I had set a new personal record for contacts and by 2200 UTC I had passed my
previous high claimed score (2002). What is it going to be when ten meters is
really back?

It was a ball!
