Comments:
Twas an interesting weekend, fun but with some frustration with band condx. High
bands disappointing, low bands better than expected.
160m: N6RO led off Friday nite, condx good to Carib.,one EU, 2 AF; had 23 mults
by midnight, when WX5S took over and had a good run of 65 JAs. Matt took the
Sat. evening shift, getting a few more mults; N6RO took the late shift getting
a few more JAs and AS mults. We never managed VK or ZL. 73 JAs total.
80m notes (NA6O):
Blessed be the silence after fixing the main source of power line noise: I was
almost a "reverse alligator" once in awhile. Unsettled conditions with
K=4 and A>10 much of the weekend made things challenging but there were many
good openings. EU longpath was fun the first morning. Notable was an outstanding
hour Saturday evening at EU sunrise where a lot of mults were picked up. Good JA
activity though it tapered off the second night as it often does. In the end, we
set a record for the number of countries worked in this contest from N6RO. 218
JAs.
40m: WA6O was chief op, N6RO picked off a couple mults in the last half hour.
Band was not great, except for a good long path EU opening both days. 515 JAs.
20m: K3EST sez: 20 was good. EU was OK but not runable very often. JA opening
was very good, runable from 21Z to 02Z. The band closed both days about 0230z
and did not reopen until 1300z, when Carib. was workable. Most interesting QSO
was UN9GD short path. 380 JAs. Great fun, thanks to Ken for the hospitality.
15m: N6BV led off on Friday, operating remote from his SF home. Band folded
after about a half an hour, with 18 QSOs in the log. N6WM cranked up early Sat.
AM, logging nearly everything heard, including a couple western EUs. Dean took
over again Sat. PM, with very minimal opening to JA. Chris picked off more mults
on Sunday AM, and Dean finished off with a small JA run in the last hour. Total
JAs on 15m was 35!
10m: de N6WM - Aloha and Mahalo, with a little ZL. Sat, noontime opening to CE,
LU and PY Sunday. N6RO picked off the VK mult by CQ in the last 30 minutes. Tnx
to the KH6s for half of our 10m Qs. No JA.
All radios and antennas played well, few logger issues. Special tnx to the 1220
JAs in the log. The team ate up all 12 pounds of the "contest
chilli"! CU in the next one. 73, N6RO
