Comments:

We had hoped to exceed last year’s score by a modest amount but unfortunately
things went the other way and we fell slightly short by approx. 371k points.
The biggest gap is a considerable difference on 15m where we had 247 fewer QSOs
and 22 fewer mults. 20m wasn’t horrible but we also saw a drop there too and
it felt somehow less productive overall than last year. On the lower 3 bands, we
actually increased our QSOs significantly on all 3 with the biggest difference
being on 40m where we added 120 QSOs. However we did have 4 fewer mults on
those three bands; -1 on 160m, -1 on 80m, and -2 on 40m. Another positive note
was that 10m came out to play on Sunday and we managed to make 32 QSOs and 22
mults which helped offset some of the losses from 15m in the mult department.

I always get a thrill out of working unusual DX, especially on the lower bands:
China on 40m on the first call just before 6 am Sunday morning, having a ZL call
me while running on 80m, Japan on 80m, A61 calling me on 40m Sunday afternoon
and being so loud I thought he was a stateside station and didn’t believe my
ears the first time, etc.

NY3B and N2UU were clever enough to actually run stations from Japan on Sunday
afternoon, racking up 61 additional JA QSOs, which was even better than the 48
JA stations I worked Saturday afternoon doing S&P. We worked a number of
stations running 5W from Japan which impressed us all as well as quite a number
running only 100w. While they were doing that, I started a great run on 40m
starting at 3 pm local time that went for the better part of 3 hours with NY3B
taking the latter half.

AK2S kept things rolling overnight the first night and it’s always reassuring
to come in after a few hours sleep and see how much he’s bumped up the score
while we got a few Zs.

K2AX jumped in the chair Sunday when 10m opened and grabbed a bunch of the much
needed mults. Many of them were FRC expats so those QSOs have a double benefit
to us.

We had a few technical challenges which we didn’t expect but we managed to
mitigate them the best we could and kept things going. However, it still
created some brief periods of downtime.

As always, we greatly appreciate the use of the station at K2AX and the
hospitality and patience that Mark, Donna, and their daughters show us.
