Comments:
I had to miss the 3 CWT sessions last week. 10 days ago I lowered the 40/80
meter inverted vee and put in a longer piece of coax so I could raise it some
more. This involved a lot of walking to put the balun above another set of buy
wires and to keep the 4 wires from getting tangled in the wind. This was
successful.
Then I went to the shack and did the CQ160SSB contest using the foot switch.
My left foot got tired, so switched to the right. The next day I could not walk
due to swelling in my feet and ankles. I was trapped in the shack with one trip
to the doctor and hospital. I can now scoot around the shack in a wheeled office
chair and stand up a bit. Whew!
Started on 80. Used the vertical for RX and TX since weak guys in all
directions. It was full sun so signals were not too strong, but plenty of
activity. I had changed the Flex software and within 5 minutes noticed that the
rig would not return to RX. Had to hit "esc" to get out of TX. Lost
a few QSOs. VE3 was weak which was not usual. At 13:20 had 50 QSOs. By 13:28
I had drained the band and missed quite a few guys who went to 40 early. SteppIR
never bothered with a follow-up phone call with ideas about fixing my DB18e on
40, so used the inverted vee.
40 was good and had a nice mini-run to the west coast at their sunrise. AT
1340Z had 102 QSOs. W1WEF was really loud. At 1346Z had 124. Did SP& at
the end and did not leave too many on the table. Ended at 155 QSOs.
