Attn: Dave Ritchie - Esq.
Dave, my dear fellow amateur...you have not been screwed!
If you would have opened your Alpha 87A and peered in...you would have
noticed a band switch and 2 variable capacitors all actuated by separate
stepper motors with 6 degree indexing that receive their data from the
microprocessor inside the cabinet.
This puts the amplifier into the proper band segment per the input rf
received from the transceiver.
If you will listen carefully you will hear these components index. Of
course, the blower may mask the sound.
It is a good amp. but does not match up to the Alpha 77DX or 77SX. No
amp. to this day can match it!
Regards,
Bob - K4NV
