I have to offer my 2 cents on the Care and Feeding company. I have
worked with them since 1980, using their power tubes in many
projects. Bob Tornoe, presently engineering manager, went through the
ranks as a tube designer at one time. Also was a marketing type for a
long period. He visited us a few weeks ago, and spent half a day with
this single customer. Reid Brandon, besides being a ham, is a fine
engineer to work with, and he and I have had many conversations, not
to mention the support he has offered in data sheets, app notes,
drawings, etc. Many years back, when George Badger was there (now
with Svetlana), the 3CX1200A7 had come out, and he gave me a sample
to test in an old amplifier that used 3-500Z's. As for the rest of
the bunch, they have come and gone. Folks like Bill Orr have a legacy
of written notes, articles and handbooks for us to follow. I do not
condemm them for not upgrading Care and Feeding recently. How many
companies are competing in the tube business anymore?? Count 'em with
your hand.
