Pride got into it because someone suggested copying a CB 
amplifier would be a good idea.

That would restrict you to class A operation. Efficiency would be 
very low.

The second problem is very few transmitting tubes, if any, could be 
operated with the screen tied to the anode because of voltage 
ratings.

The third problem is you can't possibly make a broadband 
transformer that would cover more than one or two bands, and it 
would still have to be followed by a low-pass filter for each band 
that was switched.

The fourth problem is the tube, with screen connected or bypassed 
to any place but ground for RF, would probably be unstable.
