Hi Chuck--you asked,

 "Is the lowest-frequency self-resonance a "parallel" resonance, i.e.,
such
that the impedance of the choke is very high?" YES

 "Is power-amplifier operation at a parallel-resonant frequency
dangerous to
the health of the choke?" NO, definitely NOT! In fact, that is the
ideal situation. My single-bander amps use fundamental-parallel-resonant
plate chokes, resonant in situ. Maximum Z is exhibited and therefore
maximum efficiency occurs at fundamental parallel resonance (typically
megohms, Z). Nearly no circulating RF current is present then (good).

 (Tnx -Chuck)
