When we here in the UK were granted an allocation in the 136 Khz region, I
set about building an obsolete technology transmitter with valves (tubes)
Max pwr was about 60 watts of RF. I used computer modelling for the various
tank constants, but neverthess once constructed, these required adjustment
for maximum performance. This entailed circuit adjustments/component
substitution whilst the system was energised and producing RF.
One several instances whilst making adjustments over periods of say one
hour, I got quite definite headaches. This was not one isolated instance nor
was it imagination and I an unaware of any other possible or likely cause.
Put it this way, after that experience, no way would I spend more than a
very short time in the vicinity of such an RF source, and would avoid doing
so at all where possible. I cannot speculate on the nature of the biological
implications, but to me the headaches had causal connection with the large
RF fields in the immediate vicinity.
As a matter of interest, for some years I worked as lawyer for a power
company which was being sued by people claiming adverse medical conditions
arising from alleged power line/power equipment radiation. The case never
went to trial due to financing problems encountered by the claimants, but I
don't think this kind of claim will just go away in future.
