Conrad,
the 1N540x family of rectifier diodes is rated at 3A Ifav, so they will do
6A in a full wave bridge circuit and much more in 6-pulse 3-phase rectifiers
which I prefer.
However, rating will me reduced with temperature and oil-cooling will become
necessary for full power.
IXYS are doing nice HV-rectifiers which I use also, very reliable.
