i replace my stock Peter dahl plate hv- transformer on my lk-500-zc with a
unit from an ameritron al-1500 transformer it works very well until i stored
the power supply and amp away for a few months. upon using the amp once more
the power supply started tripping the circuit breaker. i also heard a hum as
i started to increased the input voltage (120vac) with a variac the hum
became louder then after a few seconds with just 70vdc) it will trip the
breaker with no load what so ever, i disconnected the heavy current leads
from the filter board and to no avail it did the same thing, what would make
a good transformer go bad by just storing the power supply away for a few
months? could this transformer be fix and if so is it worth the money to fix
it? i replace my old original transformer back inside the power supply and it
works fine, so there is nothing short out on the filter board or the amp it
self, thanks de Pete WO2E.
