I have a plate transformer that has taps at 2000, 2500 and 3000 with a common center tap. Obviously made for a full wave rectifier to supply 1000, 1250 or 1500 volts rectified.

I will use it with a full wave bridge.

Question about the taps: Would there be any harm in using a lower tap on one half of the transformer different than on the other half?

Meaning, use the one 3000 tap on one side and the other side use the 2500 tap. This would allow voltages steps of 250 volts rather than 500 volts for a tap change.

It would give 250 volt steps between 2000 and 3000 volts of transformer voltage.

Thanks
